Reflections on Six and a Half Years

It doesn't seem possible, but I've lived in Franklin now for six and a half years, and to say that a lot has changed in my life during that time is a massive understatement. A lot has also changed in Franklin. As I move forward with Discovering Franklin, I find that there is always something new to discover, but I would be remiss if I didn't share personal favorites and great discoveries with you. I mean, you can't exactly live in a small community for this long and not develop favorites. There are places and people and stories just waiting to be told. There are realizations about moving that never occurred to me before we moved. (I'm still trying to find some of my things.)

I want to share it all with you, because I love my new life and Franklin, TN.

In hindsight, I now realize that we knew NOTHING about Franklin or Nashville or the surrounding areas. We literally came here for three days, bought a house, saw a couple of sites, went back to Los Angeles and had to sell our house, while letting everyone know that we were leaving; plus pack up decades of stuff, all while trying to convince our friends and family that we hadn't lost our minds. I mean who just up and moves across the United States with little knowledge? We did, but it turns out that we had a whole lot of faith and that has been my guiding force through all the changes that have come my way.

I began this blog while still living in California; I think because I was trying to comfort myself. I said it was to share my experiences with friends and family, but truth be told, it was my escape. And as it turns out, Discovering Franklin was my salvation. It's how I met my friends. It's how I got out of my house and began exploring. It's how I met many of you. It's how I challenged myself to keep going when I felt totally unsettled. Unsettled is a big part of moving and if anyone tells you otherwise, they aren't speaking the truth.

I've learned to embrace uncertainty, which for me, is huge. I've never been very good at the uncertainties of life. In the middle of our personal turmoil and trying to find our way through the maze of a 2,000 mile move, God also decided that it was time for a new business. What? Towards the end of 2015 when we were really struggling, and thought we had made a very bad decision, Franklin Flannels showed up. So wait. God? Franklin, Tennessee and now vintage flannel shirts? Are you kidding me? But flannel shirts were definitely a thing - all the things really, because now my husband and I had navigate a foreign business to boot.

I'm going to share all of this with you, but it's not going to happen all at once, otherwise you'd be overwhelmed. So for today, I want to know about you. Are you a native to Franklin or did you move here like I did? What do you want to know? How can I be of service to you? What stories do you want to hear? Let's do this together. I'm probably not going to share recipes and DIY stuff, because there are others far better at those things than I am. But I'm pretty good at sharing my story...all of it and hopefully, you can find yourself in the joys and the messes. Life is a process. Life is a journey, so come along and let's have some fun.

I'm excited to get to know you so please leave me a comment below.
