I am bad at going out for breakfast and I really don’t do well at brunch either. It’s not because I don’t like breakfast or brunch, it’s because there’s usually too much fattening food especially at those brunch buffets. I get overwhelmed the minute I see miles of food in chafing dishes.
But today I had the most delightful surprise and all that changed. I was invited to come and try out the new First Watch on Meridian Blvd in Franklin. (It’s the former location of the Egg & I.) It was a gracious invitation requesting nothing, but upon entering this newly remodeled urban farm space, I knew I had to share this gem with you.
Now y’all might have eaten at a First Watch before, but I haven’t. And if you have, why have you not shared this place with me? It’s exactly the fresh, made-to-order food that I crave and now, I have a place to go for breakfast, brunch and lunch.
If you’re like I am and want the freshest food prepared without a lot of additives then this is your place.
It was a day to do some tasting so I have to admit, we overate a bit.
We began with the most delicious juices made fresh every morning. I can’t tell you which one I liked the best – The Kale Tonic made with kale, fuji apples, cucumber and lemon or The Day Glow with carrot, orange, lemon, and organic ginger. Both were so vital and fresh and I know exactly where I’m stopping for my fresh juice fix because not only are the combinations perfect, but their priced so healthy food is affordable – just $3.99. I can’t juice at home for that price.
Next it was on to our brunch items. I ordered the Avocado Toast. Served on thick-cut whole grain (the real deal) toast and generously covered in perfectly ripe smashed avocado, extra virgin olive oil, lemon and Maldon Sea Salt and two cage-free poached eggs on the side.
I don’t want to exaggerate here, but I was in a bit of food heaven.
My husband ordered The Elevated Egg Sandwich and elevated it is! Again, over easy cage-free egg topped with crispy bacon, Gruyere cheese, fresh smashed avocado, mayo and lemon dressed arugula on a brioche bun. The EES is served with fresh, seasoned potatoes. Come on!
At the recommendation of First Watch, we also had an order of the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. Fresh, whipped ricotta cheese is added to the the multigrain batter and the pancakes (2 large) are topped with marinated berries and creamy lemon curd and warm syrup! Warm syrup…it matters.
Do you see what I mean?
Truthfully, it was difficult to decide and when I return, very soon, I’ll be trying something different. All the breakfast items sound enticing and lunch looked equally as intriguing.
All food is made-to-order and freshness is never comprised which is why you will never find any heat lamps, deep fryers or microwaves at First Watch. Our waitress, Elise was a fantastic and clearly the staff is well trained.
This new First Watch is located at 1000 Meridian Blvd. #118 just off Carothers. Hours are Sunday – Saturday from 7:00am – 2:30pm. Sorry no dinner.
First Watch is a real treat and there’s something for everyone in your family. Pssst…it’s a haven for vegetarians.
And one more thing…they will be open on Easter.
Have fun y’all and enjoy.
