Ummmm…Hello Tennessee! Can we just talk for a minute about your heat and humidity? Would you like to change course here any time soon?
I know…I’m being a wimp! Okay…I’ll take that. And I also know that this is one of the coolest summers on record. And I’m still being a wimp! And I don’t care.
I’m not a fan of 98 degree weather with humidity sitting at 85%. Seriously…it’s nasty and oppressive! It’s the kind of nasty where you go outside and breathing is challenging. I’m not complaining. I’m stating a fact.
There are people here who LOVE this weather…I just don’t happen to be one of them.
Here’s a little known fact…Humidity brings out BIG BUGS and I hate big bugs!
I feel particularly sorry for those of you who have kids who play football and have to practice in this.
Now don’t get me wrong…it used to get unbearably HOT in Valley Village where I lived almost all of my life…but without this delightful humidity.
It just makes me tired and I have things to do!
So today…I’m dreaming about FALL! And the cool weather that accompanies it and then there will be pumpkins…and festivals…and changing leaves…and Pop-up Barn Shows (which are the most fun ever!)…and apple picking…and maybe a fire in the fireplace…and football games at night…and changing leaves so the hills look like a patchwork quilt…and there will be drives in the country for no reason except to see the beauty.
Yep…Today I’m dreaming about Fall and you would too, if you knew how beautiful it is in Franklin in the fall.
There’s just something so wonderful about the leaves changing color before the winter arrives. In Los Angeles…the trees began changing their colors in January and sometimes they never changed!
I thought maybe I was being ridiculous, so I asked some of my friends to share their thoughts on fall and here’s what they had to say…
This is rom Lauren Rector, Sassy’s Groomer…”Fall is my favorite season. Its all about campfires, camping, family and friends. I enjoy the cool breeze and beautiful colors.” Yep!
And Christina Laiche has this to say…”Crisp thoughts of cool flavors of fall. Watching the trees turn to their beautiful colors, while getting the rakes together to sweep away the beauty to transform more beauty of Winter.
And Beth Bizier always has such a beautiful way of expressing herself…
” Fall beckons me to come alive again, to see, taste, smell, touch and hear the sounds of the world around me; to shake off the hot humid summer before the hibernation of the winter cold, both seasons that pull me inside to ride out their extremes. I pull my chair closer to the fire, wrap the flannel blanket tightly around my shoulders and sip the warmth of the cider from the big old ironstone mug. The crisp cool air is scented with the potpourri of wood smoke, apples, cinnamon and cloves. My rocking chair glides gently on the old front porch, the ornate gingerbread trim framing the magnificent view as brilliant reds, sunlit golds, and fiery oranges shimmer from the mountains. The crinkling of leaves as they are raked into piles mix with the laughter of children and the barking of dogs somewhere down in the valley below”.
When you live in a place that has four distinct seasons…fall is a BIG DEAL…another new experience for me. I finally understand what the harvest season actually means. Last year I was really trying to still figure out where things were and I was a bit discombobulated, but this year, I plan to take it all in and savor the season to the fullest.
Now back to the this HEAT!
There are actually people who go running in this weather. They’re crazy!
I was at the grocery store yesterday and the woman standing next to me said, “It feels like I’ve been buried alive.” She’s clearly having a harder time with this than I am.
The heat will pass…fall will come…followed by winter and I’m sure there will be a future post about longing for summer. Sigh…we humans!
I’ve always wanted to live where the seasons are distinct and now I do. It’s more of an adjustment than I ever imagined.
It’s only been a year of everything being new. This is my first real summer and my second fall and truthfully…I’m adjusting JUST FINE, thank you very much. It’s about learning to accept what is that makes all the difference.
But hey…a girl can still dream, right?
Which season is your favorite and why?
