I told you that you couldn’t do everything. And then there’s Sunday. My Sundays are usually spent relaxing at home, but if you’re the adventurous type, I just read that the Harpeth River is ready and waiting for you and your family to canoe, kayak or tube down the river. I promise to bring you a whole story on this, but you should know that if you plan to visit the river on a weekend, you MUST have a reservation. Don’t make the drive only to find that there’s no canoe or kayak for you.
I highly recommend that you invest in a pair of water shoes. I wore flip flops the first time we went and ended up barefoot because they broke! You will need to get your feet wet.
Apply sunscreen. Wear a hat and reapply sunscreen throughout the day.
Don’t forget the bug spray. There are bugs. It’s a river.
You’ll be given a life vest. By all means wear it. And if you plan to take your dog, you should have a life vest for your dog, too.
Watch for poison ivy and snakes. You’re not at an amusement park so be prepared for wildlife.
Three places where you can rent canoes and kayaks…all are located on Highway 70 in Kingston Springs.
If you somehow manage to do half of these things, please let me know how you managed to pull it off!
