Fall has arrived and here in the South, it’s a big deal! There’s excitement about fall that I never knew in Los Angeles, because truthfully, September and October are two of the hottest months in Southern California! I knew nothing except that my heart longed to experience fall in all its vibrant glory! So welcome fall! I’ve been missing you. One of the best parts about fall is taking the time to make my home cozy in anticipation of cooler weather.
I can get easily distracted. Do I spend time inside decorating or do I go take a walk and feel the leaves crunching under my feet?
Because it’s still early…I decided to get my home ready. It’s not fall until the mantle is decorated and this year, I kept things simpler and neutral. If you missed how to create white mini pumpkins…here you go.
It’s time to swap the cotton blankets for a light weight down comforter and layer the bed with extra throws for those early mornings when there’s a chill in the air. I love sleeping with the windows open because it’s true what they say…”You can smell fall in the air.”
Something about fall means I usually spend more time in my bedroom under a blanket reading a book and sipping on a steaming cup of hot coffee laced with cinnamon.
I’m a bit of a nut over candles and in the fall, I burn them all day. The glow of the candle and the different scent of each one makes me feel cozy and who doesn’t want cozy? I have my favorites, but right now, Stag by Patch NYC is elegant and feels like fall. You’ll feel like you’re taking a walk in the forest.
Throws of every shape and size are gently tossed about because when the temps drop into the 40s, sometimes you just want to snuggle up with a lightweight blanket and sit in front of the fire and doze.
Yep…dozing in front of the fire is pretty special.
I have a confession to make. There is one blanket that is in need of some serious help, but I can’t part with it. It’s a double sided cashmere and belonged to my grandmother, but it’s got some holes and tears in it and it’s seen better days. Every year I think I should let it go, but I can’t, and I don’t trust anyone to fix it. Sentimentality combined with cashmere – though to let it go, but there’s hope, because I think I’ve found a replacement that I can proudly display…and believe me…I’ve been searching for a long time.
You know…Christmas is coming and I always give myself one fabulous gift!
We eat differently in the fall. I take advantage of the Farmer’s Markets because I’ll always be dedicated to farm to table and organic meats & poultry, but I cook more soup and stews – healthy comfort food. Is there such a thing? Yes…and if you come to my home during the fall you’ll most likely smell a pot of minestrone soup slowing simmering away on the stove.
Simple little changes, make for a big impact.
Happy Fall Y’all!
How do you make your home cozy for this magical season?
I love connecting with you. I hang out here too!
