When I moved to Franklin, TN, I knew there would be things that I took for granted in Los Angeles. I knew food might be an issue and in the beginning, it was. Now I venture out and go Discover great food all over Middle Tennessee, but especially in Nashville where the food scene is booming!
I also thought I would definitely miss great theater. I mean…I was spoiled, but you don’t know what you don’t know.
It was November of 2014 and I was introduced to the innovative, brilliant productions that Studio Tenn puts on several times a year right here in Jamison Hall at the Factory in Franklin. When I tell you that we are beyond blessed to have Studio Tenn right here in our backyard…I’m not even kidding.
Since seeing Steel Magnolias (which was just wonderful), I’ve returned numerous times, and each time I walk away with a huge smile on my face, because great theater does that to you.
Friday night my husband and I went to see The Ray Legacy – A Tribute to the Soulful Genius.

Now let me just say that I was never really a huge Ray Charles fan. I liked his music, but I wasn’t crazy about it. My husband on the other hand, loved his music. So we went.
Ladies and Gentlemen…Run…don’t walk to get tickets before this show closes on May 1!
I know, I’m not giving you a lot of advance notice.
The show is off the charts outstanding and I was blown away by the talent, the staging, the musical productions, the quality of performance by every artist and the creative set and costuming. It’s pretty near perfect!
This is not a show about Ray Charles’ life per se. Rather it’s a “celebratory remix of his iconic catalog” of music and it’s presented by some of the finest talent around.
This show is just jaw-dropping fantastic and the music will sweep you away. One minute the entire cast is romping and swaggering, dancing and singing, and the next, the lights are dim and a ballad takes you to another word.
There aren’t enough adjectives to describe the talent. They’re just stupendous and you can tell that they’re having fun, and so, we in the audience, do too.
Great theater doesn’t just happen. I’m not the least bit surprised at how Studio Tenn is growing. Jake Speck (Executive Producer and Managing Director) and Matt Logan (Director/Designer and Artistic Director), are the founders and the genius behind our wildly talented theater. They are dedicated to excellence on every level and the first time I interviewed them I knew that they knew where they were going. I love that!
Some tickets are still available for The Ray Legacy, but don’t wait. Order yours today here.
If for some reason you can’t make this production, you can catch West Side Story at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center June 3rd & 4th. Tickets are on sale now by going here or call 615.687.6400.
