It’s finally happened. After a delightfully mild December, we’re getting blasted with some major Polar air this week. I suppose it’s Polar Vortex #3!
I really don’t mind the freezing cold weather…I mind when it breaks pipes and causes all kinds of damage. Last year…it wreaked havoc in my life in a whole lot of ways. I spent half of the winter months trying to figure out what the Polar Vortex was doing in Tennessee! And when your heat stops working in the middle of it, it’s hard to stay positive…But this year – I have HEAT and…I have never been so grateful in my life! It’s crystal clear and freezing outside, but in my house…it’s toasty warm! Ahhh…heat!
I can focus on life and that makes me happy. I’m gradually becoming accustomed to the seasonal changes! I know, seriously…but when you live in California there isn’t really very much in the way of seasons. I had huge elm trees in front of my house in Valley Village and they didn’t used to change color until mid-January or sometimes February!
But one thing that I believe is universal is how the seasons affect our skin. Yes…this is a beauty blog today featuring a few of my favorite things. I hate dry skin especially when it’s on me. My aversion to dry skin is actually a joke in my family. I have such a thing about dry feet, that when we used to go camping/surfing in Mexico every summer, I walked around in my bikini with my slippers on! It might have looked ridiculous, but I didn’t have dry feet!
Last year I got fooled by what I thought the weather was like in the South. Who knew humidity in summer but none in the winter? Well, by now you know I was kind of lost last winter, so my skin took a back seat and I was NOT happy about it.
But this year…I’ve got the Keep Your Skin Soft Formula. No more dry skin for me and if you incorporate any of my favorite skincare products into your daily routine…you’ll have the softest skin in your house.
My hands take a beating. I’m always cooking or cleaning or typing…doing something always with my hands and without the proper care, they can be a real mess. A few months ago I made a sugar/salt scrub that I use on my hands regularly. It would make a great Valentine’s Day present for your friends.
Use warm water only and a small amount of the scrub. Rub it into your hands until the salt and sugar begin to dissolve. Rinse and your hands will feel as soft as a baby’s bottom.
I’m also a huge advocate for using pure Argon Oil as my hand moisturizer. I get it at Whole Foods. You don’t need to combine it with anything because it absorbs quickly. It’s also good for you cuticles as well.
For my body…I’m in love with this product that Kaitlyn introduced me to at Christmas. I love when she shares her best beauty secrets with me. I need to stock up on these products!
I shower with Organix Hydrating Moroccan Argan Oil Body Wash — 13 fl oz. I’ve used a lot of body washes over the years, but this one is amazing. I use a Japanese body scrub cloth with a little of the body wash and scrub away! I promise…you’re going to love it!
I dry off with an oversized fluffy towel and then I apply Organix Hydrating Moroccan Argan Oil, Dry Body Oil 6.8 fl oz (200 ml). These two products are affordable, which is good because you’ll use a lot during the winter.
I realize that this is not exactly about Discovering Franklin, but it is about finding joy in simple things, which I think is totally fitting because there is joy in having smooth, silky skin.
