We began with an appetizer of prosciutto with melon drizzled with honey and aged balsamic paired with Santo Prosecco.
Next we had a delectable palate cleansing of eggplant caponata with aged 18-month old cacciatorini. Delicious!
Crab Bisque with tomato and fennel was sensational! The soup changes seasonally.
Next we were on to Caprese Salad with heirloom tomatoes, velvety burrata and a fried basil leaf paired with Bottega Vinaia – Pinot Grigio
The house pasta specialty is beyond amazing! I’m going to try to contain myself here. I’m still dreaming about the Porcini Ravioli with Champagne Truffle Sauce topped with shaved black truffles and freshly grated parmesan. Heaven on a plate!
By now I was feeling like I had had an elegant sufficiency, but we weren’t finished yet – not by a long shot!
Roasted Rack of herb crusted baby lamb was the next course served over farro, with asparagus, cherries, dates and raisins and paired with Masciarelli Montepulciano.
And finally…not to be missed were not one…not two..but three desserts because they’re just that good!
Italian cheesecake (creamy and smooth to perfection), Flourless chocolate cake made with Frangelico and Chambord, hazelnuts and almonds. Dense, dark and utterly sinful. And then the house speciality – Lemon Tiramisu! To balance it all out, I was treated to Taylor Fladgate, a lovely 30- year old port.
I love lemon at the end of a meal and this Tiramisu made with Limoncello is light and pretty near perfect. My family was thrilled because I couldn’t eat everything, so dessert came home with me!
What a special treat. Not only is the food amazing, but the service is outstanding. Il Mulino cares about their customers and it’s reflected in every interaction you have with their staff. You’ll feel transported to Italy, with the ambiance of Manhattan chic, but with Nashville friendliness.
Trattoria Il Mulino is open for lunch and dinner and they serve brunch on Saturday and Sunday. I’m told the Hangover Pizza is pretty fantastic! Call Trattoria Il Mulino today and make a reservation. It’s just a short drive from Franklin – I promise!
