Even American Express is encouraging us to shop our neighborhood shops and especially on November 29 which is Small Business Saturday.
Here’s what American Express says on their website and I LOVE IT!
BE PART OF THE AN AMERICAN STORY

“The story of America is written in every small business. It’s written in cafes where we meet our first loves. And in the boutiques where we buy our babies’ clothes. On November 29, be there for the businesses that are there for you to help write the next chapter.” T
The thing about Franklin is that there is just some amazing shopping and it’s really hard to narrow it down, but there are merchants who have been especially important to me and I want you to know about them in case you don’t already.
Today I’m sharing the places I would go for a Very Special Gift – you know the gift that you wrack your brain over…
What flavor of coffee are you enjoying today? I’m drinking Pecan Praline that I ground at Fresh Market – ummm…another one of my favorite finds.
If you’re in need of a touch of home and holiday inspiration, look no further than The Iron Gate on Main Street in Downtown Franklin. Walk through the doors and you’ll be transported to another place and time where the every piece has a story. You’ll find the most luxurious display of candles (the likes of which I’ve never seen), whimsical items for the home, fine bed linens and sleeping attire as well as specialty gifts sure to delight the recipient. I really can’t say enough about The Iron Gate. It’s luxury with comfort…elegance and fun…and truthfully – you can’t leave this shop without feeling inspired. I love it when one of these bags is under my tree!
Before we take drive to Leiper’s Fork, stop by and visit my pal, Kim Leggett at City Farmhouse. This is one shop that can’t be missed. Filled with visual delights and endless one-of-a-kind Farmhouse pieces that embrace urban and country living, you will be dazzled by the knowledge and information that both Kim and David share with their guests. I call us guest because that’s exactly how they make us feel. If you’re looking for a truly inspired piece for your home this is where you want to be. Kim will take you on a journey through the history of each piece. Just pay them a visit because you’re life is richer for it.
Jump in your car and let’s a drive to Leiper’s Fork. Just at the corner of Southall Road and Main Street, is Halfway Market.
I almost hesitate to share this, but it’s a treasure you need to know about the best cheeseburger I’ve ever eaten…hands down…the best! So stop off for a quick bite and then make your way down Southall Road to Leiper’s Fork.
It wouldn’t be Christmas for me without some treasure shopping at David Arms Gallery. Now you might not be able to purchase an original oil painting for your love, but David Arms Gallery is not your average art gallery. There are gifts galore inside the restored and beautified barn. I start every morning with coffee in my David Arms mug. I send letters on the notecards inspired by David’s work…a bookmark rests in each of my books from the Gallery. You can purchase a beautiful Gicleé or a signed print (I have two of them and they make me smile.) The fire pit will be going…the barn will be decorated and if you’re lucky the artist will be in the house. It wouldn’t be Christmas without the Magic of David Arms.
Another treasure just up the road from the Gallery is Serenite Maison where once again, you’ll be taken to another place and time. This is a mercantile that feeds your soul. I find gifts (and even gifts for me) here that I never see anywhere else. Alex Cirimelli has an eye for beauty and display that will take your breath away. There’s a gorgeous collection of antique crosses and artisan crafted jewelry…candlesticks and urns that draw you in…fabulous coffee table books…specialty lines…lace and lavender…an eclectic blend of all things beautiful. Alex doesn’t want you to rush…so if you’re in a hurry…maybe you’d like to mosey out to the back porch…sit in a rocking chair and overlook the stream below. There’s magic here for sure.
There’s magic in Leiper’s Fork and I’ll be sharing more with you tomorrow. We still have to have to do fashion y’all.
I hope you’re having as much fun as I am! Share your favorite shopping places below.
