Fall is just around the corner and if you like decorating for fall like I do, I have just the store for you to load up on lovely fall decorations and some really unique Halloween finds. But go soon because these treasures will sell out. Come with me for peek at fall decorating with The Bagbey House!
Kris Bagbey is my friend and the owner and he’s one talented guy. This is one of my go-to places when I’m searching for the perfect item to fill a corner in need of some love or a special gift, or better yet…when I want design inspiration. Kris has an eye for detail and today he shared simple tips for creating a fall mantle that you can enhance for Halloween and will carry you all the way through fall.
First and foremost – don’t overdue it with a bunch of stuff!
Begin by laying a long piece of burlap or any material you like over your mantle with an overhang on each side.
If you have lamps or large items on your mantle, you can keep them for height.
Add the garland of your choice. The one featured in this mantle is magnolia leaves with attached pinecones. It’s full and makes a statement.
Add a couple of stems of bittersweet or any colorful filler that is substantial enough to be seen and has color. It gives life to your garland.
Next you can fill in with pumpkins or gourds. If you use real pumpkins, you’ll probably have to change them at least once.
Lights always add a touch of magic to any mantle especially at night. The twinkly lights featured here are a rusty-orange and really do make a huge difference.
Once you have the basics in place fill in with varying heights to create more interest. Chunky candlesticks with pumpkins on top are a clever idea. *Hint: Kris says that books are perfect addition for creating height. Place books and put something on top.
What I’ve learned from Kris is to always have fun! If you don’t like it – you can fix it. Creating a space that makes you happy begins with having fun and experimenting.
Every lovely, magical thing you see in these pictures can be purchased at Bagbey House. These are treasures that will be in your family for a long time and each one has a personality. Go today or call and tell Kris what you want.
Did I mention that every wreath in my house except for one (which came with me from California) has been purchased at Bagbey House. Wreaths like the one below are available for purchase. Just ask the master to whip something up for you that is customized and you’ll be so happy you did.
