Hey Sweet Friends…there’s a giveaway at the end and you have to act fast! Have you ever wondered how Pop-up or Marketplace shows actually come together? One day there’s a big empty lot or warehouse and the next thing you know it’s transformed into an intriguing, welcoming space. I love seeing the finished work, but I’m far more interested in how the magic actually happens. My friends Kim and David Leggett of City Farmhouse fame and every other thing known to man invited me to come watch the set-up for the Vintage Marketplace at Tailgate Music Valley Antiques Show.
After doing a happy twirly dance, I jumped at the chance to watch it all happen. It’s difficult to render me speechless, but I’m just blown away at how this all happens. Here’s the thing…we show up to shop these shows and somehow it looks like each booth drops out of the sky all put together and amazing…but that’s not exactly the case!
I think it’s really important to know that this is HARD work…and each person does this for LOVE…the love of finding just the right piece to add to the collection…the love of the hunt…the love of the find…the love of the adventure. And then they come from all over the United States…and drive all night in the elements to share their LOVE with you. It’s important to know this, and as shoppers…to also honor it.
I met some fantastic people with lots of stories, but even though each person was unique…their stories all had a common thread. For most of them…the love of antiquing and picking runs through their DNA and they can’t imagine life any other way.
I was chatting with Kim and Lanna Logan, who are folk art and American Country furniture dealers and Lanna said, “It’s a circle of LOVE. Kim and I go out searching together…we find stuff…we bring it home and we create memories. Plus…we do it because we’ve made so many good friends. It’ s 360 degrees of LOVE. ”
So what does go on behind the scenes? Truckload after truckload of things need to be unloaded. Booths have to be assemble and designed. There’s heavy lifting and dragging…and lighting of signage…and building displays and laughter and friends… but the thing that really surprised me the most was that the Dealers were all buying from each other. That’s right. Some dealers arrive and shop for their booth on set up day! I know, right? They all pretty much know each other (like for a long time) and they know who sells what and they have this running list in their head about customers who are looking for certain pieces.
So…they shop and shop and this is how it works. I was fascinated! Vintage Marketplace at Tailgate Music Valley Antiques Show is BIG…it’s one of the top antique shows in the country and from what I saw it’s filled with unique, beautiful finds. There’s an eclectic mix of vendors and I’m pretty sure there’s something for everyone.
On Saturday, February 14 at 1:00pm, my friend Kim Leggett is doing a special walking tour of the show. Ever wonder what to buy and ask yourself if it’s worth it? If you answered YES then is for you. Kim is going to focus on integrating Vintage & Antiques into your personal style whether your new to this world, a seasoned collector or a professional designer. You’ll get an in depth understanding of why certain pieces command the price they do. Oh…and there’s no charge for the tour or Kim’s expertise!
And if you have a desire to do some “Glamping” you’re going to LOVE the vintage fully restored and designed campers! They’re all the rage and they’ll be on display for your viewing pleasure. Can we just admit this is FUN stuff!
Of course there’s music and food and even a wine tasting. You never know who you’ll run in to at this show or any show for that matter, because folks from all walks of life show up. I had the pleasure of meeting Gil Netter, Producer of The Blind Side, Life of Pi, Water for Elephants, and his son Jake Netter of This City’s Full . (Check out this his site…it’s pretty terrific!) Shopping is shopping and sometimes you have to jump on a plane to go where the best goods are!
So would you like to indulge yourself and do a little shopping in Nashville this weekend. I’ve got 10 tickets to give away for Friday or Saturday. Here’s what you do. Leave me a message below and I’ll let you know if you’ve won. They’re going to the first 10 who put their hand up. If you win, the ticket will be under your name at the ticket office.
I hope I see you there. Remember…if you want to go…leave a comment below and make sure I can email you back!
Happy Shopping and Happy Valentine’s Day!
P.S. Today is the Anniversary of my 19th month in Franklin and I just want to say how blessed I am to call Kim and David Leggett friends. Take a special walking tour of the show with Kim Leggett of ‘City Farmhouse’ on Saturday at 1pm. Kim focuses on integrating Vintage & Antiques into your personal style whether you’re a ‘first time home owner’, ‘seasoned collector’, or ‘professional designer’. Remember the valuable advise, “You get what you pay for”? Just buying the cheapest item isn’t necessarily the best value. She’ll help you understand what makes up the value and thus the pricing of individual items.
