I hate to admit it…but I did NOT know who Buddy Killen was until just recently. I realize that it’s almost a sin to admit that here in Tennessee, but it’s the truth…however, I most definitely know who (Dolly Parton, George Strait, Burt Reynolds & a whole lot of other folks) hung out with him at his estate in Leiper’s Fork! So I can only imagine what he would have thought about Folk & Folly, the remarkable transformation of his mansion at City Farmhouse Pop-up Show! What’s a Folk & Folly? Incredible – that’s what it was! It was a design showcase featuring local artists and talent who were invited to transform (and I mean TRANSFORM) the rooms in the mansion. With small budgets and the task of using “found objects” as part of the transformation, they worked magic! Because I simply don’t have words to describe what they did…I think I’ll just share it with you…I mean there were a whole lot of oooohhhhs and ahhhhsssss and “how did they do this?” and “oh my gosh…this is amazing!” and “holy cow…how long did this take?” If you’re into adjectives…then the transformation of the Buddy Killen Mansion was created just for you! So sit back and let’s have a cup of coffee together and take a Folk & Folly tour…

The Nevermore Exhibit staged by local artist Erin Anderson and antiques dealer and collector, Anna Anderson was enticing down to the finite details.

I’m told these pumpkins are not difficult to paint, but then that’s from the mouth of Erin Anderson and she’s a real artist!

The room designed by local florist Jacklyn Caveny was hauntingly beautiful.

Oh my gosh! Absolutely NO words for this exhibit done by the students at O’More College of Design. They did this on a $100 budget!

Look at how these books were transformed. It’s simply not possible to do this room justice. Pages were printed and then transformed with tea to give them a vintage look.
There’s so much more because, like I said, I took over 300 photos. City Farmhouse Pop-up Show is now over, but the great thing about putting on a fabulous, and I mean fabulous event is that we have something to look forward to next year! So mark the 3rd weekend in October on your calendar now and figure out a way to make your way to Franklin for this show. I have to take my hat off to Social Marmalade for their sponsorship of Folk & Folly. In case you’re looking to spruce up your social media…get in touch with these ladies today! OK! It’s on my calendar!
This home was just a joy to visit. I was astonished about the amount of work that went into each room. My personal favorite was the reading/book room. It was fantastical, and had to have taken sooo much work. Truly enjoyed it and hoping to share this website with my daughter who is a crazy reading girl. Thanks for the awesome photos!
The reading room was beyond amazing! The students who did the room created and then printed all the book pages and then dyed each page with tea to age it! Remarkable.
thank you Cindy! it was so much fun to put together! btw….i did not know who Buddy Killen was either, and i have lived here for over 30 years.
